This winter has felt like a picture-perfect postcard on Drummond Island. With nine year-round rental homes to care for, Karen, Amy, and the Northern Properties team remain busy throughout the season — preparing and maintaining properties, cleaning, shoveling, and hosting winter guests, all while planning for our full spring reopening and taking reservations for the warmer months ahead.
The close-knit spirit that defines Drummond Island grows even stronger in winter. It’s a season when neighbors look out for neighbors, and when our team leans on one another in small but meaningful ways—sharing generators and portable heaters to protect water lines, lending garage space so a truck can be worked on out of the wind, plowing driveways, and tending woodstoves when our off-grid team members need to be away for a few nights. The same kindness our guests experience doesn’t disappear in the off-season; it deepens.
There’s also plenty of time to enjoy the same winter activities our guests love. The Meadow Trail on nearby state land, for example, offers a peaceful winter escape that’s perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Many visitors are also pleasantly surprised to discover the regularly groomed ice skating rink at the Township Hall. And if you didn’t pack skates, no problem — complimentary pairs are available to borrow from the Lighthouse Church just across the street.
As much as we appreciate the quiet beauty of winter on Drummond Island, we’re looking ahead to spring — longer days, more open cabins, and welcoming guests back to Northern Properties.
Warmest regards,
Amy & Karen
