Meadow Trail sits at the gateway to an extensive network of ORV (72-inch-wide) routes and ATV (50-inch-wide) trails on the east side of Drummond Island. In true Drummond Island fashion, the Meadow Trail entrance is unsigned; however, the most recent edition of the Drummond Island Recreation Map (available for $5 at the Drummond Island Tourism Association Visitor Center) outlines the loop and the below directions walk you step-by-step (or glide by glide on skis).
On the Recreation Map, the ungroomed 50-inch trail segments appear in light red, while the groomed ORV/72-inch routes are shown in brown.
For reference, the trail is outlined in blue on the image below.
Trail Description
From Parking Lot 1 at Intersection 13, snowshoe or cross-country ski east along either Turkey Ranch Trail—a groomed 72-inch snowmobile route (brown)—or the adjacent ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) to Intersection 12. Watch for the stone chimney base and rock wall remnants of a Finnish homestead dating back to the Johnswood era of the late 1800s.
At Intersection 12, you’ll face your first decision:
- SHORT LOOP: Head south on an ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) to Intersection 14.
- LONG LOOP: Continue east on a groomed 72-inch snowmobile route (brown) to Intersection 11.
Short Loop
From Intersection 12, travel south on an ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) to Intersection 14 at Glen Cove Road. This section winds through an old oak grove—prime habitat for white-tailed deer and ruffed grouse. From Glen Cove Road, head west along an ungroomed 72-inch route (brown) (which may be plowed for logging during the 2025–2026 winter season) to the intersection of Kreetan Road and Glen Cove Road. Continue north on Turkey Farm Road to return to Parking Lot 1 and Intersection 13.
Long Loop
From Intersection 12, head east on a groomed 72-inch snowmobile route (brown) to Intersection 11, then continue south on a groomed 72-inch route (brown) (which may also be plowed for logging during the 2025–2026 winter season) to Intersection 15.
At Intersection 15, choose your return:
- MODERATE OPTION: Head west on a typically ungroomed 72-inch route (brown) to Intersection 14, then travel north along an ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) to Intersection 12 and west along Turkey Ranch Road back to Parking Lot 1 and Intersection 13.
- SCENIC OPTION: Travel south and west on an ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) looping around an open meadow—giving Meadow Trail its name—before reaching Glen Cove Road. Turn west toward Intersection 14, then head north on an ungroomed 50-inch trail (light red) to Intersection 12 and west along Turkey Ranch Road to return to Parking Lot 1 and Intersection 13.
We can’t recommend Meadow Trail highly enough for those seeking a peaceful winter setting for quiet snowshoeing or cross-country skiing.
